A fitness expert has recommended getting outside in the fresh air to exercise rather than being confined to a stuffy gym.The Sun's adviser Nicki Waterman said that 45 to 50 minutes of brisk walking on top of a five minute warm-up and cool-down at either side will really do people good, as well as allowing them to enjoy the scenery.
"Walking outdoors is not only a great workout but also gives you a chance to explore unfamiliar territory," she commented.
Ms Waterman also recommended alternating brisk walking with jogging every five minutes or so in order to get the heart rate going, using landmarks such as lampposts to mark time.
However, with the weather looking set to turn cold again, outdoor exercisers should consider a thermal underlayer in order to stay warm in the same way that footballers do.
The extra layers that can be seen under the players' team strips are usually made of fabrics to insulate the body, such as Gore-Tex, rather than cotton which can draw sweat and make the body colder.
