With winter sports holidays becoming increasingly popular, cross country skiing may be one option that many Brits are considering. However, due to its different nature to downhill skiing, participants may find that they need slightly different attire for these kinds of trips.
With this in mind, Mike Doyle of About.com has put together some tips that may help would-be skiers choose what they need.
Firstly - and this is similar to ordinary skiing - it is important to layer up, preferably with a polar fleece middle layer and a waterproof jacket as an outer layer.
However, Mr Doyle said, cross country skiers may wish to choose a jacket that is a slimmer fit because more movement may be needed.
In addition, ski trousers with a slimmer leg may also be useful as they allow more movement from the joints.
Finally, gloves are essential, the expert said, commenting: "Cold hands can make anyone miserable."
Cross country skiing may be ideal for those who have never skied before since it allows people to move at their own pace.
