Cross country skiing 'something fun to do as a family'

20/02/2009 16:34
For families who enjoy winter sports trips, cross country skiing could be a great alternative to a traditional ski trip.

This is the suggestion of regular participant Jim Hill, who told the Detroit Free Press that the sport is something that can be done by almost anyone who can walk and because it is not competitive, it makes it fun to join in with together.

Tim McClure, who runs classes for beginners, agreed that cross country skiing is easy to master, especially for those who are familiar with winter sports already.

He added that after learning a few basics, such as getting up after a tumble and how to glide, even novices can take to the trails in a matter of minutes.

Mike Doyle of About.com recently suggested that cross country skiers may wish to choose a jacket that is a slimmer fit because more movement may be needed.

In addition, ski trousers with a slimmer leg may allow more movement from the joints.
