Cross-country skiing could be a good option for people with children, since it allows for a slower pace than downhill skiing. This is the opinion of Kristina von Trapp Frame, the granddaughter of Maria Von Trapp, who told MSNBC that going snowshoeing or onto different parts of the slope could also be more fun.
"When you are in the woods, you are out of the wind," she pointed out, adding that children can enjoy listening out for different birds or following animal tracks while they go, as well as being able to sit down on a branch if they need to.
Cross-country skiing may also be an ideal option for older members of the family when downhill slopes are frozen, Ms von Trapp Frame commented.
Earlier this month, Mike Doyle of About.com suggested some ski gear for cross-country skiers, which included a waterproof jacket, a polar fleece, slim leg ski trousers and gloves.
