'Lift your spirits' with a walk this February

27/01/2009 16:40
A walk outdoors could be the antidote to a dreary FebruaryAlthough February may seem something of a bleak month, this makes it the ideal time to get out and about, one writer has argued.

In an article for the Telegraph, Nick Trend suggests a number of places people can go next month in order to experience the great outdoors, pointing out that seeing the early flowers will make you realise that spring is not too far away.

"On a sunny February day, nothing raises the spirits better than a walk through the great drifts of white flowers that carpet some of Britain's best woodland gardens," he commented.

The writer suggests Hodsock Priory Gardens in Nottinghamshire, Painswick Rococo Garden in Gloucestershire and Walsingham Priory Gardens in Norfolk as good places to go, among others, to see the flowers at this time of year.

Although February may indicate a return to lighter nights, it may still be cold, so be sure to pack hats and gloves on walks. Many types have a removable Thinsulate layer so that walkers can stay comfortable in cold or slightly warmer temperatures.
