Wrexham receives £1.3 million for safer walking and cycling routes

20/03/2009 12:09
Grants of £1.3 million have been given to provide safer walking and cycling routes for residents of Wrexham.

Ieuan Wyn Jones, minister for economy and transport, announced the funding this week and said it would be part of the Safe Routes in Communities initiative, following the success of the Safe Routes to Schools programme.

The money will go towards providing links to places around the region, producing less of a need to travel by car.

"This will contribute to a healthier Wales by making walking and cycling a greener and safer option for the whole community," said Mr Jones.

As a result of the new routes, children may also be able to walk and cycle around Wrexham and the surrounding area more easily and safely.

To avoid the spring chill, parents could consider buying children's fleece jackets such as the Regatta Urca, which is available in four colours and has plenty of pockets.
