TV presenter hopes to have beaten kite skiing record

12/01/2012 09:20
Helen Skelton. Not content with aiming to break one world record, TV presenter Helen Skelton has made a bid to break another ahead of her challenge to reach the South Pole unaided.

Along with her team mate, Norwegian Niklas Norman, the Blue Peter presenter travelled 100 kilometres by kite ski in seven hours and 55 minutes.

This they hope will be verified by officials for the Guinness World Records as the fastest this distance has been travelled on skis powered by kite power.

Ms Skelton is currently halfway through the 500 mile journey to the South Pole, which she is undertaking by bike, kite ski and skis.

She said: "I know I’ve got a lot of hard work still to do but at least I am closer to the end than the beginning now."

Ms Skelton became the 33rd Blue Peter presenter when she joined the show in 2008 and since then has completed challenges including the Namibia Ultra Marathon and kayaking down the Amazon River.
