Ski-less skiing holidays on the rise

21/02/2012 16:36
Skiing seems to be a fundamental part of any ski holiday, but it may be surprising to hear that there is a growing trend in people participating in other activities instead.

This may bring snowboarding and tobogganing to mind, but actually those in the French skiing industry are saying things like nature treks and spas are becoming more popular.

Apres ski is well known as being a lot of fun, but having the après without the ski sounds a little odd, but more and more people are doing it.

20 years ago the average skier would spend a total of six hours on the slopes each day, but now that figure has dropped to just four hours.

Laurent Reynaud, general delegate of France's national ski lift operator, said: "The state of mind of holidaymakers has changed in 30 years. Nowadays it's not so much about effort as about enjoyment."

Skiing holidays are still popular with many who would not even dream of packing their bikini without their ski wear, however, as two million foreigners descend on France between December and April each winter.ADNFCR-2054-ID-801298649-ADNFCR
