Walk in the footsteps of Darwin this spring

15/05/2009 17:35
People in Shropshire will soon be able to walk in the footsteps of Charles Darwin, as gardens formerly belonging to his family will become open to the public.

The gardens were once used by the naturalist to walk and contemplate the future and now belong to couple, Sharon and John Leach, reported the Shropshire Star.

Ms Leach said: "This is part of the original gardens, hence the name Darwin Gardens," speaking to the newspaper.

She went on to say the land was used a thinking trail for the young Darwin as his father used to take him and his brothers for walks to focus their minds about their futures.

The gardens will be opened to raise money for a new cancer centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for the Lingen Davies Cancer Cenrtre Appeal.

People are welcomed to visit the Darwin Gardens between May 9th and 31st.

Darwin changed the way people thought about the world and began the thinking of the theory of evolution. He was born to a wealthy family in Shrewsbury in 1809.

Women thinking about spending time in the outdoors this May might want to consider a Jack Murphy Norfolk gilet.
