National Forest walking festival set to get going

15/05/2009 14:14
People are being urged to get their country clothing on and head out into the outdoors for the start of the second annual National Forest Walking Festival.

Beginning tomorrow (May 16th), the festival will be offering 42 different walks around the area across ten days and there is something for everyone, the event's official website claims.

Each walk is led by a local walking enthusiast and offers ramblers a chance to learn about the National Forest as well as neighbouring countryside, towns and villages.

Saturday kicks off with a family walk, rambles for people interested in learning about the history of the area and treks in the forest.

The National Forest covers 200 square miles in central England and more than seven million trees have been planted in the area.

Some 90 per cent of the woodland is open to the public.

Men heading off into the outdoors may want to look at the Jack Murphy Austin jacket.
