Get your summer clothing on for National Bike Week

02/06/2009 11:53
People of central England will have no excuse not to don their summer clothing and head out into their natural surroundings in June as The National Forest prepares to celebrate National Bike Week.

Running from June 13th to 21st, the week will have "something for everyone" whether they are a novice cyclist or an expert biker, organisers have said.

For people aged over 50 looking to get their cycling clothing on and get back at the pedals, a gentle ride will take place around the Rosliston Forestry Centre.

More keen cyclists may be interested in taking part in the 80-mile event from the National Forest to the Peak District and back again.

An off-road biking event will also be on offer for women and a riding skills session will take place for the kids.

"The mix of rolling terrain, wooded landscapes and a growing number of off-road and surfaced trails makes the Forest a perfect area for cycling," explained Alan Leather, funding and partnerships officer for the forest.

According to the British Heart Foundation, cycling more than 20 miles a week can reduce the risk of heart disease by more than half compared to that of non-cyclists who do not exercise, Why Cycle? reported.

Women wishing to take up more cycling this summer may wish to look at the Dare 2b Grease Monkey cycling t-shirt.
