Explore the Jurassic Coast in walking shoes this summer

10/06/2009 17:21
A new set of guided walks is offering lovers of the coast a chance to get out in the outdoors with their walking shoes and take in the sights of the Jurassic Coast.

The walks are named Rock Around the Coast and will set off every Saturday from June 13th to August 29th.

Each section of the walks - which in total will cover the 95-mile coastline - will be led by a different guide who will offer expert information about the rocks that record 185 million years of history in their layers.

The Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site running between Exmouth in East Devon to Studland in Dorset.

Due to the fact that the rocks are being eroded at an angle, the layers of rock from east to west in the rocks go from youngest to oldest.

"This gives us a 'walk through time' that is seen nowhere else in the world," said Walk magazine.

According to Jurassiccoast.com, the rocks record the period from the Mesozoic era, through the Triassic and Jurassic periods to the Cretaceous period.

Women exploring the coastline may wish to look at the Rockfold XLT ladies' waterproof trail shoe.
