Take your walking sandals for a tour round Westminster

11/06/2009 17:53
People looking for an interesting walk through the English capital may want to don their walking sandals and head to the historic centre of Westminster, a newspaper has stated.

On the second route of its Great Walks around London, the Telegraph suggests heading from Victoria Station, taking in the architecture along the way - starting with what was one of the earliest and grandest railway hotels, The Grosvenor Hotel on Buckingham Palace Road.

Westminster Cathedral is also a sight to take in on the walk, which is less compromised by tourists than St Paul's and the Abbey, it adds.

Continuing through Ashley Gardens, the trail then passes the red-brick mansions of Artillery Row and then on to the former boarding school and workhouse of Grey Coat Hospital.

Other buildings to note on the walk are the fire station on Greycoat Place and the glazed Channel 4 building on Horseferry Road.

The tour continues past the Tate Britain and Millbank Tower before arriving at the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Whitehall, the Cenotaph, through to Trafalgar Square and ending at the National Gallery.

According to WalkActive, getting out and about on a walk can lower stress levels, improve mood and help aid sleep.

Women taking up more walking this summer might want to try the Hi-Tec Scirocco ladies' walking sandals.
