Put your walking boots on for a bank holiday ramble in the Lakes

12/05/2009 15:55
Walking enthusiasts headed to the Lake District for the bank holiday weekend may wish to take a walk to Patterdale.

"This is a lovely walk, which takes you through a glorious part of the Lake District," said Mary Welsh, writing for Lakeland newspaper the Westmorland Gazette.

"It passes through deciduous woodland, beside a glorious beck, climbs a steady slope and uses an ancient path," she added.

The ramble begins at Cow Bridge near the A592 near Patterdale and heads off on a well-maintained footpath into woodlands.

As the hike begins to curve back, walkers may wish to loosen their walking boots and head into the Crookabeck farm shop where families can stop and feed the Angora goats, she suggested.

The ramble covers a distance of five miles and should last between three and four hours.

According to the Cumbria Directory, it is thought the name Patterdale derived from St Patrick who was thought to have visited the village around AD 540.
