The GORE-TEX® Membrane is at the heart of all GORE-TEX® garments. It is completely wind and waterproof, but permeable for water vapour (perspiration). The GORE-TEX® Membrane contains over 1.4 billion pores per cm2 (9 billion per square inch). These are 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, but 700 times larger than a water vapour molecule. An oleophobic (oil hating) sustance is then intergrated to prevent contanmination from things like body oils and insect repellents. Every new GORE-TEX® product prototype is put through a rigorous series of tests in the Gore testing labs. Not only is the GORE-TEX® fabric tested but all components of the entire product have to prove their excellence under the toughest conditions. Only then is a garment declared worthy of the GORE-TEX® GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY™ promise.
