A trail from Rowberrow to Blackdown in the Mendip Hills has been recommended for a walk in summer clothing by journalists from the Times. Christopher Somerville chose the Somerset walk as part of the newspaper's Walk series and led a group of readers on the ramble.
The walk passes Burrington Combe gorge that has been carved out of the local limestone rock.
Once at the top of Blackdown, walkers can see for 70 miles on a clear day across to South Wales, the Cotswolds, the Blackdown Hills and Exmoor, it added.
The trail continues down past Tynings Farm and through Rowberrow Warren woods.
Ending in the Swan Inn, hikers can enjoy a drink with ham and eggs along with the satisfaction of completing the six-mile walk.
"Six miles of glorious walking and already everybody felt like friends," concluded Mr Somerville.
The Mendip Hills is one of 49 areas of outstanding natural beauty in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and is situated around 20 miles from the historic city of Bath.
