Malvern 'a summer holiday hotspot'

20/01/2009 12:21
It has come as something of a surprise to its residents, but the Worcestershire town of Malvern has been voted as one of the world's top eight summer break hotspots.

In a list compiled by AOL Travel, the town ranked among Yunnan in China and St George in Utah thanks to its picturesque scenery, holistic hotels and proximity to London.

Simon Smith, economic development manager for Malvern Tourist Information Centre, said: "It does offer something for everyone here, from walks in the hills to spa days, there's so much to do."

According to local legend, CS Lewis and JRR Tolkein used to walk on the Malvern Hills, which provided the inspiration to the opening sequence of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Anyone keen to check out Malvern for walks this summer may wish to consider summer walking clothing such as shirts from Craghoppers. Its Nosquito shirts have built-in mosquito repellent.
