Jogging 'can offer mental and physical benefits'

27/02/2009 13:03
Jogging is a great way of getting fit and making yourself feel better mentally, one expert has said.

David Bullock, spokesperson for Gyms4Home, pointed out that a run will release endorphins, producing a feeling of wellbeing, as well as burning off calories and preventing weight gain.

However, he had some tips to advise people on how best to get the most from their jogging routine.

These included always warming up to prevent pulled muscles and making sure you don't overdo yourself at first, particularly of you have never jogged before.

In addition, joggers should always have a bottle of water on hand to prevent dehydration and should never forget to cool down after a workout, Mr Bullock said.

Anyone jogging in the spring is advised to layer up in case of sudden changed in temperature. The middle layer should preferably be a polar fleece, such as those made by Dare2B or Craghoppers.
